EDINA Workshop 2: Primary & Secondary Education
The second EDINA workshop for teachers, board members and other school personnel will take place on April 12 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This meeting will involve both primary and secondary education groups to discuss the transition, reception and assessment/observation of Newly Arrived Migrant pupils: what is the effect of transition to different schools on Newly Arrived Migrant pupils? How can pupils best be assessed and observed so that their talents can develop optimally? How can we involve other parties in education? How can we make sure that a Newly Arrived Migrant pupil can function at their age level as soon as possible?
In preparation for this workshop, we asked participants to write down two sentences that their school’s Newly Arrived Migrant pupils uttered recently, and to tell us how far they thought the pupil was from transitioning out of the reception classroom based on the linguistic aspects. We also asked them to list three students that have recently transitioned out of the reception classroom: what criteria was their transition based on? When did they transition, and why at that moment?
